Part 3 – Reading – At the bank

Scene 1 – Opening an Account

It’s Monday morning, and Mark is at the bank. A friendly bank teller smiles at him.
“Good morning! How can I help you today?”
“I’d like to open a checking account,” says Mark.
“Of course. Do you have your ID with you?”
“Yes, here it is.”
“Perfect. You need to fill out this form with your name, address, and phone number.”

Mark sits down and writes carefully.
When he finishes, the teller says, “Would you like to deposit money today?”
“Yes, please. I’d like to put in $100 to start.”
“Great. Your account balance will show in a few minutes. You can also get your ATM card in about a week.”
“Thank you so much,” Mark says. “This is my first account!”
“You’re welcome,” says the teller. “We’re happy to have you as a customer.”

Scene 2 – Withdrawing Money

A few days later, Mark returns to the bank.
“Hi again!” says the same teller. “How’s your new account?”
“It’s great, thanks! I just want to withdraw some cash — fifty dollars, please.”
“No problem. Please sign here.”
Mark signs the form. “By the way,” he asks, “can I transfer money to another account?”
“Yes, you can. There’s a small fee — two dollars per transfer.”
“That’s fine,” Mark says. “I just want to help my sister.”
“Of course! You can also use online banking to do that anytime.”
Mark smiles. “Thanks again. You’re always so helpful!”
