Part 3 – Reading – At the bank

Scene 1 – In the Electronics Store

Ben is standing in front of a big TV. It’s beautiful – large, thin, and bright. A sales clerk walks up. “Hi! Can I help you?”
“Yes,” says Ben. “How much is it?”
“It’s eight hundred dollars,” the clerk answers, “but this week it’s on sale for seven hundred.”
Ben looks surprised. “That’s still too expensive for me. I’m trying to save money this month.”
The clerk smiles. “No problem! We have a smaller one for four hundred. It’s a good deal.”
Ben thinks for a moment. “That sounds better, but I’ll come back later. I don’t want to spend money today.”

Scene 2 – Later at the Cafe

Ben meets his friend Mia for coffee.
“Hey,” she says, “Did you buy that new TV?”
“No, it’s not affordable for me,” Ben says. “It looks great, but I don’t think it’s worth it. Besides, I’m trying to save some money.”
“I get it,” says Mia. “I’m the same. I’m trying to save for vacation.”
They go to the counter to pay.
“That’s $9.50,” says the cashier.
Mia takes out her wallet. “Can I pay in cash?”
“Sure! Out of ten dollars? Here’s your change – fifty cents.”
Ben laughs. “You see? You’re already saving money!”
Mia smiles. “Only fifty cents, but it’s a start!”
